The world of tomorrow - robot surgeons and downloadable smells

01/03/2007 - A survey carried out by the South Korean government has predicted what the technology of future will be able to do. The report forecasts a future of downloadable smells, robot surgeons and longer lasting mobile phone batteries.
The South Korean government carried out the survey in order to discover what consumers will want from future technologies. The predictions made in the report are the result of interviews with 3,500 experts in the country.

The panel that carried out the survey predicts that by 2015 people will be able to use the internet to deliver data about smells to fragrance cartridges that connect to PCs. This will then interpret the data to produce the smell.

The report also stated that by 2018 it would be routine for robots to carry out surgery and that some will be small enough to swim through a person's blood vessels, healing any problems they come across.

The report also speculated that by 2012 mobile phone batteries may be able to last nearly as long as two months between charges. It also predicted that by 2015 soldiers will have bulletproof armour that can adapt, like a chameleon, to match its surroundings.

South Korea is a country renowned for successfully integrating cutting edge technology into day to day life. The internet is used extensively in the education system for teaching and to accurately track individual pupils' development.
