No PS3 price cut for Europe

25/07/07 – Electronics giant Sony has decided against reducing the price of the PlayStation 3 in Europe, despite its decision to cut the price of the console in the US. Instead of a price cut Sony will bundle free games and accessories with the PS3 in Europe.
Sony has also failed to reveal whether or not the 80GB model will be available for sale in Europe.

The price of a PS3 in America has been cut by $100 (£50) for the 60GB model last week and a new 80GB version was launched with a price tag of $599 (£300).

Instead of introducing a similar price cut in Europe, Sony has introduced a "starter pack" including two games and two controllers that will cost £425.

The announcement of the new PS3 package was announced by Sony at the E3 games conference in Santa Monica, in California.

However the move has been met by criticism from gamers for not reducing the price of buying a PS3, a console that is more expensive than its rivals the Xbox 360 and the Wii.
