Microsoft release security updates
11/04/07 - As part of it's monthly security update software giant Microsoft have released five patches, four of which are listed as 'critical', the highest priority the firm gives to patches. The patches fix errors in Windows and in the Microsoft Content Management Server.Microsoft gives patches a 'critical' rating when the flaw they address is serious enough to allow hackers to take control of a PC without the user's knowledge, a Remote Code Violation.
This update follows Microsoft rushing out a patch earlier this month after the software giant became aware that hackers were targeting users of World of Warcraft.
There was an issue with the way in which Windows processed animated cursors and this made systems vulnerable to Remote Code Violations.
However this patch clashed with some commonly installed programs on many people's PCs.
Users with ElsterFormular, TUGZip, CD-Tag, and Realtek HD Audio Control Panel and other programs found that the patch stopped these applications from running.
This latest security update contains an updated version of the earlier April patch.
The second Tuesday of every month is the designated day for Microsoft to release security updates.
The rest of the update covers security issues in Windows Vista, XP, 2000 and Server 2003 as well as the Content Management Server.
