Church demands apology from Sony

11/06/07 – Officials from the Church of England will demand an apology from Sony over the use of Manchester Cathedral as a backdrop in a violent PlayStation 3 game. They will make their request in a letter written to the electronics giant to chastise them for the building for appearing in the game, 'Resistance: Fall of Man'.
The church will demand that the scenes are removed and that the company supports and makes donations to local anti-gun campaigns.

Sony, however insists that it sought all of "all permissions necessary" to set the game in the building.

Church officials deny that any permission was given and are threatening legal action against the firm.

The game has sold over one million copies since its release and Sony have advised that they will be speaking to officials from the cathedral "to understand their concerns in more detail."

The stance taken by the Church has received support from community groups and MPs.
