Apple announce Leopard release date

The update to the Apple operating system OS X, Leopard, will be released on 26 October according to the computer giant. It was originally scheduled to be released in June but had to be delayed as Apple prioritised the development of the iPhone.
Leopard will be the sixth version of OS X, which was debuted in 2001, and will have over 300 new features including one that allows a computer to be rolled back to an earlier configuration, called "Time Machine."

It will also include a utility called "Boot Camp" which will allow Windows XP to be run on a Mac.

It can be pre-ordered from the Apple online shop, the price for the single use version in the UK will be £85 with the family version, which can be loaded onto five computers, costing £129.

Apple hope that the release of Leopard will allow them to consolidate and improve their position in the home computer market.

A study completed by Gartner advises that Apple is currently the third largest computer manufacturer in the US with a 6.4% share of the market, a 5% rise on last year.
