Hi there, a bit of background...

I have a website currently hosted at http://www.kick-ups.net/unitedred - I have the domain unitedred.co.uk registered with 123-reg.

I hired somone off rent-a-coder to make some alterations and to switch domains to you (as I required a database).

So I transferred the domain from 123-reg to you following the advice of a lady in your office, when I do a whois search I can see that it has transferred to you, but it has the wrong 'name server' - still registered at 123. (I don't understand this)

When you go to unitedred.co.uk now it takes you to the 123-reg homepage! How is that happeneing!?

Also my coder is having difficulty uploading to the site - he is telling me repeatedly that he is trying to upload but 'it is not showing'. When I navigate to the file manager, I can see the files in there, but the size of the files doesn't register on the main page.

Are you able to help resolve these problems please? Can you see why the domain isn't pointing to supanet, and can you see why the uploaded files aren't working?

Many many thanks

Steve

We have changed your name servers so now your site should be visible in a web browser, it may take up to 24 hours for these changes to propagate through.

Thank you for that

When you look in the file manager you can see all of the files listed there - but on the holding screen it says that I am not using any of the available space!

Can you advise what needs to be done to make the pages upload correctly?

The holding page was showing as your homepage because it was called xindex.html, we have renamed this to index.html. The stats are now initialized and will display the disk space used. :D

Argh! I think i'm nearly there! My coder is getting the following problem and has suggested that I speak to you to resolve it. Are you able to switch off the restriction?

Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is 868 is not allowed to access /var/tmp/ owned by uid 0 in /mnt/vhostc/www.unitedred.co.uk/src/_pageheader.inc.php on line 23

Fatal error: session_start() [<a href='function.session-start'>function.session-start</a>]: Failed to initialize storage module: files (path: ) in /mnt/vhostc/www.unitedred.co.uk/src/_pageheader.inc.php on line 23

Please!

I'm afraid we can't take off restriction/safe mode as its a necessary security precaution, we hope you can appreciate this. We apologise for any inconvenience this is causing you.

I would like you to take off the safe mode on my website so it can go live!

If you don't then I've wasted time and money! It isn't a necessary security precaution because all other sites don't have it and I didn't have it with my previous hosting.

It is my domain and my hosting and I am asking you to remove the restriction.

Failing that I need the telephone number to cancel, and I will have to move!

As stated in the previous post, it is a security precaution and we are not able to remove this for you. Other hosting providers that have safe mode disabled are vulnerable, we want to offer a safe and secure service to our customers.

We are sorry that it has caused you problems, but this should not limit your functionality, there are ways you can work around it and we would try our best to assist you in any attempts at doing so.

However, if you do wish to cancel you can contact our Billing Department on 0845 120 4473 (local rate)

Thank you for your help so far, it's much appriciated.

My coder said he is prepared to try to work around the problem.

Our problem is (in his words):

For safe mode problem, we will have to change permission for some files. But we do not enough rights to do that also. I need permission for "_pageheader.inc.php" in src folder at this time. But unfortunately there is no method to change permission also.

You can ask the hosting company to look at the home page and made necessary permission on that file.

I hope you are getting my point to rectify the problem. I can do that but for that I must have enough rights. Unfortunately I don't have.

**I replied saying wtf are you saying**

Without any right to change file permission, we will not be able to overcome the safemode problem. We are accessing a file and the safe mode is preventing us to use that as safe mode is assuming that we are not the owner of file.

**Does this make any sense to you? Can you do anything about "_pageheader.inc.php"?

Regards

Steve
