I've just started to use the 12 month free trial. Could someone tell me how to set up a Sub Domain, how to FTP it and what would be the URL.
Thanks in anticipation. - Posted on Saturday, 4th August 2007 at 4:55pm

So due to lack of a reply, do I assume that despite the tick box for subdomains being checked in the details for the free hosting that in fact you cant set up a sub domain??
Is it only allowed if you're paying? I was quite willing to pay for this hosting package but now I am having serious doubts due to the level of response. As in most things you buy it is the level of support that can be the deciding factor. - Posted on Monday, 13th August 2007 at 7:39pm

We apologise fore the delayed response.
Yes you can setup sub domains as stated in the package details. To configure this you will need to log into the control panel and add them as “A Records†- Posted on Tuesday, 14th August 2007 at 10:02am

Thats great, thank you. All I need to know now is.... My domain is ejos.co.uk, my folder is called album. So do I put "album" in the "A Records" and what do I put for an i.p, do I use the same i.p as my domain name?
Also what do I use for the alias?
Sorry if it's all obvious to you but I've used many host but have never set up a subdomain before.

Sorry for the confusion, you can't actually map the sub-domain directly to a sub directory. It would only go to the root directory. A way around this would be to include some code within your index.html file that will check the URL, if it's your normal URL then it will simply display the default homepage but if the URL contains your sub-domain then it can re-direct to your album page.
To configure the A Record, you could put whatever you like as your sub-domain to be called, it needs pointing to the same IP as the www.
I hope this helps - Posted on Wednesday, 15th August 2007 at 10:17am

- So in fact you cant use subdomains. Does this only apply to the free hosting or are you unable to use subdomains even if you pay for the hosting. I really need to know as this is a deciding factor on whether I buy hosting from you.

Yes, you can have sub-domains as explained in the earlier posts, but with virtual hosting you can't map your sub domain to a sub directory. This is the same for all our packages.
Apologies again for the confusion. - Posted on Wednesday, 15th August 2007 at 1:35pm

Thanks. So if I have a "A Record" called "fred" and the same i.p as the WWW the url would be http://www.fred.ejos.co.uk ?
No need to use an alias.
It would be acceptable to include some java script in the index file to checj the url and to open the required page.
Thanks for your help. - Posted on Wednesday, 15th August 2007 at 1:45pm

The url would just be....
fred.ejos.co.uk
....if you wanted it to be http://www.fred then you would need to add “www.fred†- Posted on Wednesday, 15th August 2007 at 2:02pm

Sorry but I'm having a thick day.
My new "A Record " says http://www.album and has the www ip.
My new alias says http://www.album.ejos.co.uk
I enter a url into I E as http://www.album.ejos.co.uk
I expected it to open the holding page but just get a page not found.
I must say I'm impressed with your quick replies. - Posted on Wednesday, 15th August 2007 at 3:04pm
