File Upload Size

- Wonder if anyone can help. I'm at the last stages of uploading my web pages and currently trying to upload a .wmv file (size approx 10Mb). I am using binary transfer in the ftp window but the file attempts to upload but does not appear in the target directory. Accessing my site from the internet through my browser confirms the upload has not been successful. Is it that .wmv format is not supported on the server (i've tried to upload the file in .flv and mpeg2 but that was unsuccessful as well) or is there a size restriction on files. Absolutely baffled!!

The reason you can't upload the files is because out ftp client is restricted to 5Mb file uploads. You can still upload your file but you will need to use a 3rd party FTP client such as FileZilla which will not limit file size.

Thanks. I have installed filezilla and tried to quickconnect to the server with the following settings:
ftp.dontfretduo.co.uk
darren-e-neal@dontfretduo.co.uk
then entered my password
left server field blank
Filezilla tries to connect to server and displays "waiting for welcome message" then "unable to connect" and retries 5 times with the same results til it gives up.
For some reason also my web pages won't appear in my IE browser on this pc or anyone elses since i have attempted to connect to the server with Filezilla. I realise advice on third party software is probably not encouraged at supanet but any advice on what i've done wrong would be very much appreciated. - Posted on Thursday, 2nd August 2007 at 3:10pm

We have just successfully connected using FileZilla to your webspace. Details used.....
address: ftp.dontfretduo.co.uk
user: darren-e-neal@dontfretduo.co.uk
password: <yourpassword>
If this data is not working is it possible you are trying to use the wrong password? I'm afraid to confirm this we will need you to send the details you signed up with (via private message) including name, full address and telephone number. We hope you can appreciate the necessity of such a procedure.
We were also able to view your site using IE. If you are still experiencing difficulties please get back to us and we will investigate further. - Posted on Thursday, 2nd August 2007 at 3:53pm

Thanks for confirming my password.
That was the one i was using so i'm still not sure what i'm doing wrong. Same message appears. Is it because i'm using a free download of filezilla...version 2.2.30 and not the 2008? I'll keep trying.
Still getting the "IE cannot display webpage" message too. - Posted on Thursday, 2nd August 2007 at 4:20pm

We have checked the logs, it's because you are not entering the correct details, your username is not just darren-e-neal it is darren-e-neal@dontfretduo.co.uk. Enter the data exactly as explained below....

I've given up trying to get my video file uploaded. Filezilla won't connect to server even with all details entered correctly and file's too big for ftp client in site manager. Will just leave file off my site for the time being.
However, i still can't view my webpages on any browser. Each connection i try to make gives a domain name server error message. The url is letter perfect (http://www.dontfretduo.co.uk) so i figure the DNS server cannot find my site. Is there any way this can be rectified? Everything was working perfectly until I dabbled in that goddamn filezilla!
Many Thanks - Posted on Thursday, 2nd August 2007 at 10:04pm

Hi,
If you have followed the instructions exactly and you are still unable to view your site and/or connect using FileZilla there must be a problem with your Internet Service Provider. This morning we were once again able to view your site and connect using FileZilla.
We presume you are using the Windows Operating System? If this is the case, to try and identify the problem we need you to go to your command prompt.....
Start -> Accessories -> Command Prompt
..... this will open a MS DOS window. Within this window type....
nslookup http://www.dontfretduo.co.uk
..... please can you respond to us with the results this command returns.
From these results we are likely to have a better idea of your problem. - Posted on Friday, 3rd August 2007 at 10:42am
